The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
