Delhi Awakens to Toxic Haze Post Festival of Lights

Multiple areas of Delhi recorded an AQI exceeding 500, which translates to ten times the healthy limit set by the World Health Organization.
In some locations, concentrations of dangerous airborne particles soared to of 1800, amounting to 15 to 20 times higher than healthy levels.
Pyrotechnics Restrictions and Recent Policy Shifts
Beginning in 2020, officials had enforced a total prohibition on the purchase and ignition of pyrotechnics during Diwali due to their major role to the deadly smog that covers the metropolis as winter approaches.
Nevertheless earlier this year, the newly elected city administration appealed to the judicial authority to seek a relaxation of the ban.

These hazardous conditions causes elevated rates of neurological, heart and circulatory and respiratory conditions, and can even lead to malignancies.
Air quality crisis is estimated to be responsible for ten thousand untimely mortalities per year in the capital.
