From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, fiends, and dark forces increasing in strength within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of heroes who will separate from the main group to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.
This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might look mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
First, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then paid off his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
- Kattigan has experience in the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could enable the group access places they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The fighter swore a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The warrior and The healer defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the family.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
According to episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Questers and Planners tables.
Viewers can expect learning which adventurers will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
